Ani Choying Drolma, born on June 4, 1971, in Kathmandu, Nepal, is a renowned Buddhist nun and musician celebrated for her soulful renditions of Tibetan Buddhist chants and Nepali hymns. She joined the Nagi Gompa nunnery at the age of 13, where she discovered her passion for music under the guidance of her chant master. Her unique ability to blend traditional Buddhist music with contemporary elements has earned her international acclaim.
Ani Choying's musical journey began in 1997 when she collaborated with American guitarist Steve Tibbetts, leading to the release of her debut album, Cho. Since then, she has produced numerous albums, including Moments of Bliss and Inner Peace, and has performed worldwide. Her song "Zariya," in collaboration with A.R. Rahman, gained immense popularity through MTV's Coke Studio.
Beyond music, Ani Choying is a dedicated humanitarian. She founded the Arya Tara School in 2000 to provide education and empowerment to young nuns. She is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to Nepal and actively supports various social causes, including women's education and healthcare.
Ani Choying's autobiography, Phoolko Aankhama, has been translated into multiple languages, sharing her inspiring life story with readers worldwide. Her work continues to inspire and uplift people through music, compassion, and advocacy.
