Devi Gharti Magar is a highly acclaimed and influential figure in the Nepali folk music industry, widely recognized for her prolific career in the Lok-Dohori (folk duet) genre. Born on January 5, 1986, in the Ramuwa village of Baglung district, she rose to national prominence in the early 2000s through her distinctive, melodious voice and deep connection to traditional Nepali roots. Her professional journey took a significant step in 2004 when she met fellow folk singer Raju Dhakal during a duet program; the two later married in 2008 and have since become one of the most beloved power couples in the folk music scene, frequently collaborating on hit tracks.
Over her decades-long career, Devi has recorded hundreds of songs, many of which have become household anthems during festivals like Teej and Dashain. She is known for massive hits such as "Badala Barilai," "Oralima Bar," "Lauri Harayo," and "Dui Mutuko Bandhan." Her versatility allows her to navigate soulful, sentimental melodies as well as energetic dance numbers, making her a staple on the Nepali stage and airwaves. Beyond her performance career, she is an active leader in the musical community, serving as an open central member of the National Folk and Duet Song Academy (Lok Dohori Pratisthan) since 2019.
