Gopal Yonzon, also spelled as Gopal Yonjan, was a renowned Nepali lyricist, singer, and composer, born on August 26, 1943, and passing away on May 20, 1997. He was celebrated for his patriotic Nepali songs and possessed a versatile vocal range that allowed him to excel in various genres of Nepalese music. Gopal Yonzon was among the first-generation Nepali singers to turn professional, leaving an indelible mark on the country's music landscape. His songs found their way into numerous movies and dramas across Nepal.

Gopal dedicated his entire life to the art of creating music. He invested years in researching and studying various musical traditions, including Nepali folk and traditional music, as well as Indian music, with a particular focus on Rabindra Sangeet and Newari classical music. His compositions reflected a deep, innate connection to music that he believed could resonate universally, transcending artificial barriers and boundaries. His musical creations defied strict categorization, encompassing a wide range of styles and forms.

His musical journey began as a flautist, and he ventured into lyric writing in 1963. In 1964, he recorded his first musical composition. Gopal Yonzon's body of work was incredibly diverse, covering themes such as nationalism, spirituality, romance, philosophy, dance, ballads, musical compositions, tributes to women and womanhood, songs for children and youth, as well as thematic pieces centered on the environment, sports, and scouting, among others. His repertoire was extensive and included classical, folk, modern, and music specially crafted for women and children. Despite this diversity, he consistently maintained a sensitivity and finesse that captured the essence of Nepali music and culture.
