Laxman Paudyal, the man behind the massive success of the reality show The Voice of Nepal, is finally moving to the big screen. After ruling the television world for nearly twenty years, he announced his directorial debut film titled Bhatbhate during an informal ceremony on Thursday. It’s always interesting to see if a TV director can handle the pace of cinema. Can his reality show success translate into a box office hit? Usually, the transition is tough, but Paudyal seems to have a solid plan in place.

The movie is a romantic comedy mixed with social themes, set in the Terai region. The story comes from the famous writer Nayan Raj Pandey, while Paudyal himself worked on the screenplay. For the lead roles, they’ve picked Sabin Karki, who is famous from the Cartoons Crew, and actress Anjana Baraili. Actors like Rabindra Jha and Pramod Agrahari are also part of the cast.

Why the name ‘Bhatbhate’?

The title might sound funny to some, but it has a deep meaning in the plains of Nepal.

The Symbolism: In the Terai, people often call motorcycles "Bhatbhate."

Social Status: A bike isn't just for travel there; it’s a symbol of status and is often tied to the dowry system.

The Plot: The film follows the struggle of young men who dream of owning a motorcycle and the emotional chaos that comes with it.

Since the director comes from a musical background, the soundtrack is expected to be huge. He has brought in big names like Khem Century, Pramod Kharel, and Prashant Siwakoti, who recently made waves with Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi. Actually, having such a strong musical team is a smart move. Or at least, it guarantees that the songs will help market the film before it even hits the theaters.

The project is backed by businessman Suresh Karki with a budget of around 3 to 4 crore rupees. Paudyal previously worked as an assistant director on the Hindi film Bhoot Uncle, but this is his first time taking total control of a feature film. With a realistic setting and a relatable story about dreams and society, Bhatbhate is definitely a project to watch out for.
