Kathmandu — One of Nepal's most respected filmmakers is back with a story that strikes at the heart of a crisis quietly unfolding across the country's hills and villages. Veteran director Tulsi Ghimire has released the first teaser of his upcoming film Pahad, with the production team confirming a release date of Baisakh 1, 2082 — Nepal's New Year's Day.

The teaser offers a poignant and visually evocative look at rural mountain life and the growing tide of youth migration driving the abandonment of Nepal's hill communities. Empty villages, aging populations left behind, and the quiet desperation of families separated by foreign employment form the emotional core of what the film promises to explore.

Speaking about the film, director Ghimire was direct: "The hills are Nepal's beautiful identity, but in recent times, as young people leave in search of opportunity, our villages are becoming deserted. We have tried to present this reality through the medium of cinema."

It is a theme that will resonate with millions of Nepali families — not just in the hills, but across the diaspora — for whom the pull between home and economic survival has become one of the defining tensions of contemporary Nepali life.

A Family Affair and a Star-Studded Cast

Produced under the banner of Bhagyaratna Films Pvt. Ltd., Pahad brings together a formidable cast including Bipin Karki, Madankrishna Shrestha, Sunil Thapa, Arun Kshetri, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Renunaath Yogi, and Uma Giri, among others.

The film also carries personal significance for director Ghimire. His younger daughter Panchami Ghimire makes her acting debut through this film, while his elder daughter Bhawana Ghimire serves as the production designer — making Pahad a deeply family-rooted creative endeavor.

On the technical side, the film features music by celebrated composer Ranjit Gazmer, cinematography by Pramod Pradhan, choreography by Kabiraj Gahatraj and Mingma D. Lepcha, action direction by Kumar Maharjan, and editing by Shankar Koirala and Bharati Ghimire.
