Kathmandu — Two weeks into production, the cast of the highly anticipated Nepali social drama Paanch Pandav has grown even stronger. Versatile actor Prashant Tamrakar and popular content creator and model Eva Giri have officially joined the project, stepping onto the set on the 14th day of shooting in Jhapa, eastern Nepal.
Director Basanta Niraula confirmed their addition, noting that the two new cast members have expanded the film's canvas considerably. Production on Paanch Pandav began with a formal muhurt ceremony in Kakarbhitta on Chaitra 2, and filming continues at pace across some of Jhapa's most scenic and significant locations. After completing the Jhapa schedule, the team will move on to other locations.
The film's five central characters, the "Paanch Pandav" of the title, continue to be played by the originally announced lead ensemble: Haribhansa Acharya, Jitu Nepal, Aryan Sigdel, Mahesh Tripathi, and Sagar Lamsal (Bale). The central female roles are being portrayed by Deepashree Niraula and Jani Gurung.
Writer Sushil Poudel has reiterated that despite its mythological title, Paanch Pandav is entirely a contemporary social drama. The film uses the imagery and archetypes of the five Pandava brothers from the Mahabharata as a framework through which to tell a very modern story about Nepali society.
Presenter Navin Shrestha expressed confidence that no budget compromises have been made in bringing this ambitious project to life. "We have legendary artists like Haribhansa dai alongside beloved names from the new generation. We are confident this will be one of the most awaited films of the year," he said.
The film is produced by Kali Rani Shrestha under the Kali Rani Films banner, with story, screenplay, and dialogues by Sushil Poudel and cinematography by Shyam Tamang. The shoot is scheduled across 40 days in total.
On the technical front, Paanch Pandav is set to offer audiences an immersive Full Dolby Atmos sound experience. Sound design and mixing will be carried out at the state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos studio recently launched by Music Nepal, making it one of the more technically ambitious Nepali productions currently in development.
