First Look of 'Roll No. 1' Unveiled, Set for Republic Day Release on Jestha 15

Kathmandu — The much-anticipated Nepali film "Roll No. 1" has officially revealed its first look, with the movie scheduled to hit theaters on Jestha 15, coinciding with Republic Day. Production company Seven Seas Cinema unveiled the posters on Thursday, giving audiences their first glimpse into what promises to be a deeply moving story.

The two released posters do more than introduce the characters — they quietly tell the story before a single frame is screened. Shot in earthy, muted tones that evoke the color of soil and struggle, the visuals hint at a tale rooted in the lives of ordinary Nepali people. In one poster, lead actor Mukun Bhusal and actress Renu Yogi appear alongside child artist Nirbhik Regmi, all dressed in simple rural attire that speaks volumes about the world they inhabit. Their clothing is not just costume — it reflects the daily grind of a family doing everything they can to keep their child in school.

The second poster carries an even more emotional weight. A young boy rests his head on his father's back, his face lit up with a quiet happiness, with the rolling hills of Nepal's countryside stretching out behind them. It is a tender image, and the film uses it deliberately — the father's back is framed not just as physical support, but as the very foundation on which a child's future is being built.

The film carries the tagline "Every Student's Story," and it earns that title. "Roll No. 1" speaks to the shared experience of countless students growing up in Nepal's villages, where the dream of academic success comes wrapped in sacrifice and hardship. The title itself nods to the pressure of being first — but the posters remind us of the true cost a lower-middle-class family pays to chase that number.

Directed by John Yonjzan and written by Mahesh Dawadi, the film brings together a strong ensemble cast including Mukun Bhusal, Sushank Mainali, Renu Yogi, and Sirjana Adhikari in lead roles. The child cast features Nirbhik Regmi, Rinchen Lama, Sanyam Katuwal, and Sijal Shrestha. The film is produced by Binod Poudel and Janvi Poudel, with Chhatra Maya Giri and Ramesh Chaulagain as co-producers.

Filmed across the scenic and rural landscapes of Myagdi, a Himalayan district of Nepal, the movie's cinematography is handled by Shiva Ram Shrestha. Music is composed by Prashant Shiwakoti, with background score by Rohit Shakya. The editing is done by Madan Ghimire, with production design by Kala Sangraula and production managed by Manoj Joshi.

The film comes from the same team behind "Purna Bahadurko Sarangi," which made history at the Nepali box office. That pedigree, combined with the emotional depth already visible in the first look, suggests "Roll No. 1" is poised to strike a chord with audiences far beyond the cinema hall.

According to producer Poudel, the film will release simultaneously in Nepal and abroad. Distribution rights have been taken up by Rich Entertainment and JM Cinema.
