Kathmandu — One of Nepali cinema's most familiar faces has stepped back behind the camera. Actress Rekha Thapa has completed shooting on "Maya Bhanekei Yasto Hola," her third directorial feature film and her first as a director in eight years. Previously, she directed Himmatwali and Malika, and this new film marks a significant return to that creative role.
Produced under the banner of Diya and Amu Films by Harinarayan Shrestha and Mayadevi Shrestha, the film blends a love story with broader social themes and boasts a cast that is nothing short of remarkable for its combination of generational talent and beauty queen star power.
The film stars Madankrishna Shrestha and Dil Shrestha alongside three former Miss Nepals: Srishti Shrestha, Namrata Shrestha, and Niti Shah (former Miss Nepal International), with former Miss Nepal Usha Khadgi also appearing in a special role. Having four Miss Nepal titleholders in a single film is a notable distinction for the project.
The supporting cast includes Laxmi Giri, Bishal Pahadi, Sangam Bhandari, Ravi Dangol, Sunita Shrestha, and Binod Paudel, among others. The screenplay is written by Dhruv Lamsal, with cinematography by Sudeep Baral, music by Prashant Shiwakoti, costume design by Sujeni Mall, and makeup by Priya Karki. Aniruddha Atreya serves as chief assistant director and Rajan Ghimire as film coordinator.
The film is being targeted for release during the Teej festival, when its themes of love and emotion are expected to find a natural and enthusiastic audience.
