After 28 days of shooting, the cameras have finally stopped rolling on Maya Bhanai Yasto Hola — the latest directorial venture from actress Rekha Thapa. The entire film was shot across various locations in and around Kathmandu, coordinator Rajan Ghimire confirmed.
This marks Rekha's return to the director's chair after eight years. Having previously helmed Himmatwali and Malika, this is her third film as a director — and notably, the first one she's directed outside her own banner, Rekha Films. The film is produced under Diya & Amu Films.
The cast is a delightful mix of seasoned legends and fresh faces. Veteran performers Madankrishna Shrestha and Dil Shrestha headline the film, alongside former Miss Nepal titleholders Srishti Shrestha, Namrata Shrestha, and former Miss Nepal International Niti Shah. Former Miss Nepal Usha Khadgi also appears in a special role — making this a film that brings together four Miss Nepal winners at once. Completing the ensemble are Laxmi Giri, Bishal Pahadi, Sangam Bhandari, Rabi Dangol, Sunita Shrestha, and Binod Paudel.
The screenplay was penned by Dhruva Lamsaal, who returns to writing after a decade-long gap and has spoken about the care he put into crafting the script. Producers Hari Narayan Shrestha and Maya Devi Shrestha describe the film as a heartfelt love story woven together with social themes. Sudip Baral is behind the camera, with music by Prashant Siwakoti.
The team is aiming to release the film during the Teej festival next year.
