Kathmandu — One of Nepal's cherished cinematic classics has returned to the screen. Jeevanrekha, directed by Prakash Thapa 43 years ago, was given a special public screening at Jalma Hall, Narayanghat — organized by the Shiv Shrestha Foundation in collaboration with the Film Development Board and managed by Lions Club Chitwan.
The screening is a pilot for the Film Development Board's planned "Old Is Gold" campaign, under which classic Nepali films made more than 30 years ago will be screened on a weekly basis, bringing them to new generations of audiences.
The Board has already digitized 10 historic celluloid films and plans to digitize 10 more that are considered historically significant, archivally valuable, or based on important literary works.
Jeevanrekha features Shiv Shrestha, Minakshi Ananda, Shanti Maske, Prakash Thapa, Arjun Jung Shahi, Vasundhara Bhusal, Gopalraj Mainali, and Haribhansa Acharya, among others.
