Nepali Filmmaker Krishna Chapagain Passes Away in the United States at 52

Kathmandu — The Nepali film industry is mourning the sudden loss of writer, producer, and director Krishna Chapagain, who passed away on Wednesday morning in Boston, United States, following a heart attack. He was 52 years old.

Chapagain had been living in Boston with his family for several years and was receiving treatment at Cambridge Health Alliance Everett Hospital in the ICU when he passed away, according to Nepali artists based in the United States.

During his active years in Nepal's film industry, Chapagain wrote, produced, and directed several notable films including Ek Nazar, Chattan, Izzatdar, Deewanapan, Nikhil Dai, and Didi Bhai. He also operated the Chapagain Film Shooting Indoor Studio in Jorpati, Kathmandu, which served as an important resource for film and music video productions.

Director Suman Dahal, based in Kentucky, USA, shared that Chapagain had recently been making plans to return to Nepal and resume his filmmaking career.

Colleagues, artists, and well-wishers have expressed deep grief at his passing, describing him as a warm, helpful, and deeply dedicated member of Nepal's creative community. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and one son.
