Kathmandu — A new Nepali film is arriving with the weight of recent history behind it. Changul, directed by Ram Gautam and produced by Malati Karki, will release nationwide on Bhadra 19, coinciding with Krishna Janmashtami, as a tribute to the Gen-Z movement that shook Nepal last year.

The film is built around the events of that movement — portraying a nation weakened by corruption, the social conditions that emerged from it, and the awakening of a young generation that refused to stay silent. Producer Malati Karki explained the release date choice directly: the film releases on Bhadra 19 to honor the memory of those who lost their lives during the Gen-Z protests of Bhadra 23 and 24 of last year.

The cast includes Ravi Karki, Lay Sangraula, Laxminath Timilsina, Rakesh Kumar Rai, Asha BC, Swastika Lamichhane, and child actress Rimsha Karki, among others. Music is by Bipin Acharya and Nandani Adhikari, with action direction by Dev Maharjan, and cinematography and editing by Dipendra Basnayat.

Changul shares its Bhadra 19 release date with several other films, including Baa: Ek Yoddha and Kakakiki, making it a competitive but historically significant week for Nepali cinema.
