Deepak Rauniyar is a celebrated filmmaker, writer, and producer from Nepal, known for his impactful contributions to the world of international cinema. He was born on August 29, 1978, in Saptari, Nepal, and stands out as one of the few Nepali directors who have achieved global recognition. Deepak kicked off his career in radio before making the leap to filmmaking, where he has truly made his mark with stories that resonate on a social level.

His debut feature film, "Highway" (2012), made history as the first Nepali movie to be showcased at a major international festival, premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film tackled the real-life challenges faced in Nepal and garnered critical acclaim for its daring narrative. Following that, his second feature, "White Sun" (2016), premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and collected several awards, including Best Asian Feature Film at the Singapore International Film Festival. Notably, it was also Nepal's official submission for the 90th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Deepak's most recent project, "Pooja, Sir" (2024), is a gripping crime thriller set against the backdrop of Nepal's 2015 ethnic-minority movements. The film has received accolades for its engaging storyline and powerful performances, earning nominations at esteemed festivals like the Venice International Film Festival.
