Dipendra Lama is a renowned film journalist turned film director from Nepal. Born into a Buddhist Tamang family, Dipendra's father, Deepak Lama, was a skilled Thangka painter in Kathmandu. Although Dipendra initially aspired to become an engineer, his passion for storytelling led him to pursue a career in film journalism.
Dipendra began his journey as a film journalist in 2000 with the Nepali daily tabloid paper, Naya Sadak. Over the years, he contributed to several leading Nepali newspapers, including Nepal Samacharpatra, Spacetime, Naya Patrika, and Nagarik. His dedication and talent were recognized in 2016 when he received the 'Fine Art Journalism Award' from the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).
After an 18-year-long career in film journalism, Dipendra directed his first film, "Ghampani," which was released in Nepal in 2017. The film marked a significant milestone in his career, and he decided to focus solely on filmmaking thereafter.
Dipendra Lama continues to make a mark in the Nepali film industry with his unique storytelling and creative vision. His journey from a journalist to a director is an inspiration to many aspiring filmmakers in Nepal.
