Prashna Shakya is a distinguished Nepali pop and playback singer, widely recognized for her contributions to the modern and pop music genres since the late 1990s. Born on April 26 in Dharan, she initially pursued music against her parents' wishes for a career in sports, eventually studying under the legendary composer Dibya Khaling. She rose to national prominence after winning the "Timro Sur Mero Geet" competition on Nepal Television and becoming a finalist in a Radio Nepal singing contest. Her breakthrough came with her second album, Aaawaz (2003), which earned her the prestigious Hits FM Music Award for Best Pop Performance Female.
Throughout her career, Prashna has maintained a consistent presence in the industry with hit songs like "Mutu," "Timro Yaadma," "Chhodi Jane," and the viral "Badal Barsha Bijuli" (Maya Ko Okhati). Her versatility extends to playback singing for various Nepali films and performing as a grand jury member on reality shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs Nepal. Beyond her solo work, she has represented Nepal internationally at cultural events and has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Bindabasini Award for Best Modern Female Singer. As of 2024 and 2025, she remains highly active, releasing new projects such as the acoustic version of "Hey Kali" and the track "Balama Maicha Hakuma Daicha."
