The upcoming Nepali film ‘Chameli ko Poi’ will not be hitting theaters on its previously announced date. While it was originally scheduled to release on the occasion of Ram Navami (Chaitra 13), the production team has decided to put the release on hold. According to a press release issued on Thursday, the decision was made due to the current political instability and the upcoming election environment in the country.

Director Everest Surya Bohara, known for films like Hello Jindagi and Bhaire, has already completed the film. Producer Ramnarayan Upadhyaya shared a video message thanking the entire technical team for finishing the project on time despite the challenges. However, the team feels that "the country comes first," and they are waiting for a more peaceful and stable environment before bringing the movie to the audience.

About the Film: A Glimpse into 'Chameli ko Poi'

The Lead Pair: The film features Mukun Bhusal and Surakshya Panta (often referred to as Srisakha in early posters) as a husband and wife. The first-look posters, which showed Mukun massaging Surakshya’s feet and Surakshya dragging Mukun by his legs, have already sparked a lot of curiosity.

The Genre: It is expected to be a social drama with comedic elements, focusing on the dynamics of a rural household.

The Cast: A strong ensemble including Narayan Tripathi, Wilson Bikram Rai, Ravindra Jha, Umesh Rai (Sakkigoni), and Rajani Gurung.

Technical Crew: Story by Everest Surya Bohara, screenplay by Shivam Adhikari, and cinematography by Sher Bahadur Tamang.

What’s Next?

The new release date for the film, produced under the banner of Dhan Laxmi Cine Makers, will be announced soon. The distributors, RR Films, are also on standby until the political climate clears up.

Actually, it’s quite common for big Nepali films to shift dates when elections are near, as political rallies and news often distract the audience from entertainment. At first, fans were disappointed by the delay, but given the star power of Mukun and Surakshya, the buzz is likely to stay alive until the new date is fixed. Or at least, the "Chameli" fans will have to wait a bit longer to see her "Poi" (husband) on the big screen.
