KATHMANDU – In a seismic shift at the domestic box office, real superstar Paul Shah has officially shattered his own seven-year-old record. According to the latest data released by the Film Development Board (FDB) on Monday, Shah’s latest blockbuster, Aa Bata Aama, has overtaken the lifetime collections of his 2018 hit Shatru Gate, marking a new pinnacle in his career.

Back in 2074 BS, Shatru Gate created a nationwide frenzy, earning a total of 12.65 Crore. For nearly a decade, that figure remained the "gold standard" for Paul Shah's commercial dominance, until now.

The Numbers: A New Career High

The official FDB report, which tracks collections through Saturday, Falgun 23, confirms that Aa Bata Aama has raked in a staggering NPR 12,66,90,981 (12.66 Crore) gross collection.

Ticket Sales: A total of 482,647 tickets have been sold across theaters nationwide.

Current Standing: With this surge, the film has officially dethroned Jerry on Top to become the second-highest-grossing Nepali Movie of the year 2082, trailing only behind the current leader, Paran.

Market Reality: The Performance Gap

While Paul Shah celebrates a historic milestone, the FDB report paints a somber picture for other recent releases in Nepali Film Industry. Despite the overall growth of the industry, several films have struggled to cross even the 1 Crore mark:

Movie TitleTickets SoldTotal Gross (NPR)Status
Aa Bata Aama482,64712.66 CroreBlockbuster

The ‘Mahanayak’ Slump

The most shocking revelation in the report is the performance of Prawasi Jiwan, starring the legendary Rajesh Hamal.

The Crash: After nine days of screening, the film managed to sell only 501 tickets nationwide.

The Revenue: A meager collection of NPR 1.38 Lakh has left industry insiders stunned. Analysts suggest that the combination of outdated storytelling and recent digital backlash over Hamal’s political comments may have alienated the younger demographic that currently drives the box office.

The Paul Shah Phenomenon

The success of Aa Bata Aama proves that Paul Shah remains the most bankable force in Nepali Film Industry. His ability to pull massive crowds even during a period of political transition and economic shifts solidifies his "King of the Box Office" title for 2082.

Actually, it’s quite a contrast to see Paul Shah breaking a 7-year record in the same week that a "Mahanayak" film sees its lowest-ever numbers. It shows that the audience in 2082 is looking for emotional connection and "fresh" energy over past legacy. Or at least, it’s a clear sign that the "Paul Shah Wave" is currently the most powerful force in the industry.
