Kathmandu — Veteran director Tulsi Ghimire's much-anticipated film Pahad has unveiled its first song, "Mohani Lagaune," at a press event held at a hall in Kamalpokhri. The song features newcomer Panchami Ghimire and actor Arun Kshetri, and has already drawn warm attention for its rural charm and layered messaging.
The song carries lyrics penned by director Tulsi Ghimire himself, with music composed by Ranjit Singh Gazmer. Vocals are provided by Bharati Ghimire, Sakar Apte, Madankrishna Shrestha, and Ashmita Adhikari, with a special rap section performed by actor Bipin Karki. Choreography is handled by Kabiraj Gahatraj.
Filmed against a lush rural backdrop, the song is dance-forward and melodically rich, but it carries meaning beneath its joyful surface. It weaves together images of village beauty, the painful necessity of young people leaving their homes in search of income, and a quiet argument that the hills of Nepal hold a life worth staying for.
Director Ghimire spoke about the film and the song's intent at the launch event: "I felt this subject needed to reach the general audience through cinema. There is entertainment in this film, but there is also an important message. This song hints at that."
Film Development Board Chairman Dinesh DC attended the event and paid tribute to the Ghimire family's collective dedication to the project. "Tulsi dai's entire family has devoted themselves to this film. His younger daughter Panchami is making her debut through it. That level of family commitment deserves our respect and recognition. I have always admired Tulsi dai's storytelling style, and I am very optimistic about this film."
Pahad addresses one of Nepal's most pressing social realities: the emptying of mountain villages as young people migrate abroad for work, and the social and economic crisis that follows. Director Ghimire, who also wrote the screenplay, described the film as a story that needed to be told.
The film stars Bipin Karki, Sunil Thapa, Madankrishna Shrestha, Renunaath Yogi, Arun Kshetri, Rabindra Singh Baniya, and Uma Giri, among others. Director Ghimire introduces his younger daughter Panchami Ghimire as an actress through this film, while his elder daughter Bhawana Ghimire serves as production designer, making Pahad a true family endeavor.
Music direction is by Ranjit Singh Gazmer, with choreography by Kabiraj Gahatraj and Mingma D. Lepcha, action direction by Kumar Maharjan, and editing by Shankar Koirala and Bharati Ghimire. Cinematography is by Pramod Pradhan, who has previously collaborated with director Ghimire on Anyaya, Koseli, Chino, and Dakshina, among others. Bharati Ghimire also serves as creative producer.
Produced under the banner of Bhagyaratna Films Pvt. Ltd., the film is presented by Uttam Rasaili and produced by Surendra Lama Thing, Ojaswi KC, Rimpoche Lama Thing, Damanti Rasaili, and Uma Giri. Nepal distribution is handled by Venkatesh Entertainment, with diaspora distribution by Seven Seas International Films.
Pahad is set to release on Baisakh 1, 2083 BS, Nepal's New Year's Day.
