Kathmandu — Actress Benisha Hamal, who has already firmly established herself in Nepali cinema, is now set to make her theatrical debut. She will be stepping onto the stage in a play based on the widely loved novel Seto Dharti, taking on the role of Tara.

The production will be staged at Kantipur Theatre, under Kantipur Film Academy. Benisha was officially signed on Saturday, shortly after returning home from a month-long stay in Australia. For the next two months, she will be dedicating herself entirely to the play — and will not be joining any film shoot during this period.

Wasting no time, she has already begun workshopping with the team, diving into script study and character preparation for the role of Tara.

This will mark the fourth production at Kantipur Theatre, which has steadily built a reputation for bringing together strong talent on stage. Its previous productions include Meera, featuring Rekha Thapa and Bishal Pahari; Shirishko Phool, which served as the theatre debut of both Jeevan Luitel and Sanisha Bhattarai; and Maharaniko Jatra, starring Usha Rajak and Raj Neupane, among others — all of which were received warmly by audiences.

Kantipur Film Academy and Theatre CEO Prakash Puri confirmed that the rights to Seto Dharti have been acquired from its author, Amar Neupane, to bring the story to the stage. According to Puri, the exact performance date along with details about the director and rest of the cast will be announced on Chaitra 13, on the occasion of World Theatre Day.
