For the first time ever, celebrated actress and director Jharna Thapa and her daughter, actress Suhana Thapa, will appear together in a Nepali film — and the anticipation could not be higher. The mother-daughter duo has been confirmed for lead roles in Baa: Ek Yoddha, which also marks the directorial debut of well-known musician Hari Lamsaal.
Filming has been underway for about two weeks now, with various locations across Kathmandu serving as the backdrop. The production team had kept the cast under wraps, but the secret is finally out — and Jharna and Suhana have already been shooting scenes together on set.
The film's journey began on Chaitra 9, with a script and camera puja held at the Pashupatinath Temple premises. Produced under the banner of Artistic Entertainment, the story takes an intimate and emotionally honest look at the role of a father in a Nepali family. As the title suggests, Baa: Ek Yoddha portrays a father as a quiet warrior — one who sacrifices relentlessly, shoulders immense responsibility, and battles life's hardships just so his children can have a brighter future. The narrative moves from rural villages to urban settings, tracing the emotional depth of a father's love.
Hari Lamsaal, who has composed and sung dozens of beloved songs over his career, has not only stepped into the director's chair for this film but has also written the story and screenplay himself. Producer Basanta Lamsaal, who previously produced Karma featuring actor Bipin Karki, is backing the project. Shivaram Shrestha handles cinematography, and Tara Nath Neupane serves as chief assistant director.
The team says a release date will be announced only after filming and post-production are fully wrapped.
