Kathmandu — Director Laxman Subedi, who previously made waves with the women-centric film Satidev, has officially announced his next project on the occasion of Nepal's New Year. The film is titled "Koti Koti Pranam," and while its name and the director's New Year's Day puja ceremony at Hanuman Temple in Gaurighat — complete with 108 recitations of the Hanuman Chalisa and a havan — gave many observers the impression of a religious project, Subedi has been clear that the film is anything but.

Director Laxman Subedi Announces "Koti Koti Pranam," A Social Drama Rooted in Family and Reconciliation

"The title Koti Koti Pranam is used as a symbol of devotion and respect," he explained, "but the story is entirely rooted in a social context."

The film will explore family relationships, the reunification of broken bonds, and themes designed to prompt audiences to reflect on their own lives and social surroundings. It is the kind of quiet, emotionally grounded storytelling that Subedi has shown an affinity for in his previous work.

Shooting is planned to begin in Surkhet, Karnali Province from the first week of Bhadra. The cast and technical team have not yet been finalized, though the director has indicated a mix of new and experienced actors will be brought together for the project.

The film will be produced under the banner of Dilasa Creation, with Subedi himself handling the story, screenplay, and lyrics. A production that carries a spiritual name while telling a grounded human story, Koti Koti Pranam already has audiences curious about the balance it will strike.
