Kathmandu — The teaser of Gauthali, set to release on Saun 1, has been officially unveiled, and it presents an emotionally raw portrait of a young woman whose life takes a painful turn after a marriage she hoped would bring her happiness.
The teaser opens on the relationship between a mother and her daughter, showing the mother's tireless efforts to secure a good home for her child. But the husband she believed to be kind and honest turns out to be something quite different, and the young wife is left navigating hardship — supported by the warmth of a mother-in-law who becomes a source of unexpected comfort — while the memory of a life she once wanted, including an education she never had the chance to complete, lingers quietly.
The contrast drawn in the teaser between a mother's unconditional tenderness and a mother-in-law's traditionally harsh disposition, and the way that contrast gets complicated by genuine human warmth, gives the film an emotional complexity that goes beyond simple domestic drama.
Arun Kshetri plays the husband and Simran Khadka the young wife, in performances that the teaser suggests will be both restrained and deeply felt.
Directed by Dr. Kapil Rijal with story by Dr. Bhola Rijal, the screenplay is co-written by Dr. Kapil alongside Nishchal Kunwar, Niraj Nepal, and Giriraaj Ghimire. The film also stars Madankrishna Shrestha, Prakash Ghimire, Luniva Tuladhar, Rabindra Jha, Ishwari Baral, Sanyog Rasaili, Sitadevi Timilsina, Laxminath Timilsina, and Rajendra Nepali, with child actors Anshu Oli and Prince Nepali.
The title Gauthali carries symbolic meaning — representing home, family, and closeness, the production team has noted. The film is presented by Bhola Rijal Production and Suman Giri Production, with executive producer Sarala Rijal and producers Suman Giri and Dr. Kapil Rijal. Technical credits include cinematography by Hari Humagain, editing by Milan Shrestha, music by Shambhujit Baskota, Thaneshwar Gautam, and Prashant Shiwakoti, background score by Alice Karki, choreography by Ramji Lamichhane and Mausam Himali, and color grading by Rajendra Moktan.
