Kathmandu — Gauthali held its premiere screening on Monday evening at QFX Cinema, Civil Mall, Sundhara, Kathmandu, to a packed audience of more than 700, and the response was deeply moving — sometimes literally. Female audience members were seen leaving the hall with tears in their eyes, and even veteran comedian Madankrishna Shrestha could not hold back his emotions.
"The film has everything it needs," Madankrishna said. "It is perfect. Many scenes touched my heart and I actually cried. The performances are outstanding. Arun and Simran have done such extraordinary work that they will not have a free moment after this. The camera work and lighting are excellent."
Actor Prakash Ghimire, who also appears in the film, described watching it as a member of the audience as a uniquely personal experience: "I got angry from the very beginning watching the character Arun plays. My own son is just like that character. That is why the film touched me even more deeply. I am confident that audiences will love it."
Film journalist Prakash Subedi (Rajatpat Uncle) called it a complete film: "You can always pick out flaws if you scrutinize closely. But when I say this is a complete film, I mean it has love, humor, joy, and tears — all of it. Many scenes made me cover my face. It entertains and also delivers a deep message."
Other attendees including actor-director Aakash Adhikari, actress Nancy Khadka, director Milan Chams, producer Rohit Adhikari, singer Shantishree Pariyar, and actors Jitu Nepal, Gajit Bisht, and Gaurav Pahari also offered warm praise.
Directed by Dr. Kapil Rijal, Gauthali releases nationwide on Shrawan 1 and tells the story of marital hardship and child marriage, addressing themes that resonate across Nepal. The cast features Arun Kshetri, Simran Khadka, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Prakash Ghimire, Luniva Tuladhar, Rabindra Jha, Ishwari Baral, Sanjog Rasaili, Sitadevi Timilsina, and Laxminath Timilsina, with child actors Anshu Oli and Prince Nepali.
