Anju Panta is one of the most prolific and celebrated playback singers in the history of the Nepali music industry. Born on January 3, 1977, in Kathmandu, she has dominated the Nepali music scene for over two decades, earning the title of "Melody Queen" for her versatile and soulful voice. Her career took a significant turn in the mid-2000s when she became the most sought-after female voice for Nepali cinema. She is credited with singing thousands of songs, ranging from ghazals and sentimental melodies to upbeat folk-pop and movie soundtracks, often recording multiple tracks in a single day during the height of her career.
Her breakthrough came with the massive success of the song "Na Birse Timilai Na Paaye Timilai," which remains an iconic tragedy anthem in Nepal. She has voiced nearly every major actress in the Nepali film industry, with hits like "Sustari Sustari" from the movie Kohi Mero, "Dil Yo Mero Dil" from Kismat, and the legendary "Ma Timi Bina Marihalchu." Beyond her vocal talent, she is known for her resilience and personal journey, including her high-profile conversion to Christianity and her subsequent remarriage in 2021, both of which were widely followed by her fans. Today, she continues to release music and often performs alongside her daughter, Paritoshika Panta, who has followed in her musical footsteps.
