Bhuwan Chand (Nepali: भुवन चन्द) was born in June 1949, in the picturesque city of Kuslechaur, Kathmandu, Nepal. She is widely celebrated as Nepal's pioneering actress, earning this distinction through her remarkable contributions to the Nepali film industry.

Her most renowned work is her portrayal in "Aama," a groundbreaking milestone in the history of Nepali cinema. "Aama," produced in 1964, holds the distinction of being Nepal's very first feature film, and Bhuwan Chand's lead role in this cinematic masterpiece solidified her status as Nepal's inaugural actress. This landmark film was produced by the Nepal government, further accentuating her significance in the country's cinematic heritage.

Throughout her illustrious career, Bhuwan Chand has graced the screen in numerous other productions, showcasing her acting prowess. Some of her notable works include "Hijo, Aaja, Bholi" (1967), "Manko Baandh" (1973), "Sindoor" (1980), "Jivan Rekha," "Ke ghar ke dera" (1987), "Pachchis Basanta" (1988), and "Santideep" (1989), among others. Her versatile performances have left an indelible mark on the Nepali film landscape.

Beyond her contributions to the silver screen, Bhuwan Chand has also been a prominent figure at the Rastriya Nachghar, the iconic national theater of Nepal, where she has graced the stage with her talent.

In recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the Nepali film industry, Bhuwan Chand was set to receive the prestigious "Extraordinary Services Award (Actress), 2019" from the Film Development Board during its 19th-anniversary celebration event.

Bhuwan Chand's early life was marked by academic achievements, as she obtained qualifications including Matric, IA, and a Senior Diploma in Kathak dance. She hails from a distinguished lineage, being the granddaughter of the late Padma Bahadur Thapa and the daughter of Gujeshwari Thapa and Bhairab Bahadur Thapa. Her father's career as a singer in Radio Nepal perhaps laid the foundation for her own journey in the world of entertainment.

In 1976, Bhuwan Chand entered a new chapter in her life by marrying Michael Chand. Her legacy as Nepal's first actress and her contributions to the country's cultural heritage continue to be celebrated and remembered with great admiration.
