Rekha Thapa, known in Nepali as रेखा थापा, holds dual roles as a prominent Nepalese actress and politician. Widely recognized as one of the most successful figures in Nepali cinema, she achieved fame after being a top ten finalist in the 1999 Miss Nepal pageant. Her cinematic journey began with her debut in Chhabiraj Ojha's "Hero" two years later, and she has since graced the screen in around 200 Nepali films. Thapa gained prominence in the industry due to her innovative and glamorous roles that appealed to a traditionally oriented audience. Her accolades include winning the CG Digital Film Awards for Best Actress, and in 2011, she secured the NEFTA Film Awards for Best Actress.
Beyond her cinematic achievements, Thapa is renowned for her vocal stance on social and political issues, particularly advocating for women's rights. Notably, she carved her niche in the Nepali cinema during a period dominated by male-centric narratives, earning her the title of a "female hero" instead of the conventional "heroine."
Born in Salakpur, Morang district, Eastern Nepal, Thapa relocated to Kathmandu for higher education after completing her schooling. Driven by a strong desire to become an actress, she actively participated in various modeling events and glamorous programs. Her journey continued with her participation in the 1999 Miss Nepal Pageant, where she achieved a position in the top 10 finalists. Thapa is a follower of Hinduism, adding another layer to her identity and background.
