Tara Devi

Tara Devi (1945 – 23 January 2006) was a beloved Nepali and Nepal Bhasa singer, earning the endearing title of the "nightingale of Nepal" due to her enchanting voice and a remarkable catalog of over 4,000 recorded songs that enriched the musical landscape. Her repertoire often explored themes of patriotism and love.

Born in 1945 in the vibrant neighborhood of Indrachowk, located in Kathmandu, Tara Devi's musical journey commenced at a tender age of seven. One of her most cherished songs, "Sanguri Wari Nihou Tyo Dhara Pani," stands as a testament to her early talent and enduring popularity.

Tragically, Tara Devi's life took a challenging turn as she battled Parkinson's disease, ultimately forcing her to step away from her illustrious career. The disease gradually silenced her once-eloquent voice and limited her physical mobility. This period of struggle spanned a decade, with the most debilitating years unfolding in the final four to five years.

Over her remarkable 40-year singing career, Tara Devi shared her melodic gifts with the world through a staggering 4,000 songs, each a testament to her artistic brilliance and unwavering dedication to her craft.

One of her notable albums, "Afanta Ko Manma," contains her last four recordings, made a decade before her passing.
