The cameras have officially started rolling for the upcoming film ‘Karki Shaila’. Directed by Rajendra Basnet, the production kicked off its first day of filming this Tuesday in the picturesque hills of Dhankuta.
This project marks a fresh and exciting on-screen pairing, featuring popular comedian and actor Jitu Nepal alongside Priyana Acharya, better known as ‘Munni’ from the hit sitcom Sakkigoni. This is their first time working together in a feature film.

Director Basnet has planned a rigorous one-month shooting schedule across various scenic spots in Eastern Nepal. The team will be moving between:

According to early reports, the story revolves around the life of a porter (bhariya), focusing on the struggles and aspirations of those living at the grassroots level. Jitu Nepal has hinted that his role is quite unique and challenging compared to his previous comedic performances.

After making waves on television and appearing in films like Jharipachhiko Indreni and Laaj Sharanam, this is a significant role for Priyana. Playing the leading lady opposite a veteran like Jitu Nepal is a major step in her transition from a TV favorite to a mainstream film actress.
Actually, the "eastern belt" (Dhankuta and Ilam) is becoming a very popular choice for Nepali filmmakers lately, likely because of the beautiful natural lighting and fresh backgrounds. Or at least, it’s a nice break from the usual Kathmandu cityscapes we see on screen.
The production team has stated that a release date will be finalized only after the filming wrap-up.
