Kathmandu — Nepali actress Pooja Sharma has broken her silence with a powerful and emotional message on social media, demanding swift justice for a 16-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and murdered in western Nepal — and delivering a stark warning to the government in the process.
Sharma publicly accused certain individuals of attempting to shield the perpetrators by manipulating the framework of child protection laws, calling it a deliberate effort to weaken the case and protect the guilty.
"This country will not tolerate another injustice like Nirmala Pant," she wrote, invoking the name of a young girl whose rape and murder case in 2018 became a symbol of systemic failure and institutional negligence in Nepal. "No matter who the culprit is — no matter how powerful or well-connected — the harshest punishment the law allows must be delivered immediately. No legal maneuvering, no political cover, and no protection games can be allowed to bury a crime this heinous."
Sharma went further, issuing a direct challenge to the government: "If there is any attempt to weaken this case, cover it up, or use political influence to dilute the investigation, the consequences will be far worse than the government can imagine. Today is a test for this government — will it deliver justice, or will it repeat the shameful history of Nirmala Pant?"
In her most pointed warning, the actress addressed those in power directly: "When the patience of the people runs out, no chair lasts long either."
Her statement has resonated deeply across social media, where public outrage over the incident continues to grow. Civil society organizations and human rights groups across the country have also ramped up pressure on the government, demanding immediate and uncompromising action against those responsible.
