Kathmandu — Nepali cinema is back on the big screen. Lalima, a socially conscious drama centered on the lived experiences of sex workers, has officially opened in theaters across Nepal starting this Friday — becoming the first Nepali film to release following the conclusion of the parliamentary elections.

The film puts a human face on a world often reduced to stereotypes, exploring the pain, struggles, and inner lives of real women in the sex trade. Actress Roshni Karki leads the film in the titular role of Lalima, delivering what early viewers are describing as a deeply felt and courageous performance.

Directed by Roshan Miraz, the film features a strong supporting cast including Jeevan Bhattarai, Usha Rajak, Shishir Wangdel, Sushma Niraula, Ghanshyam Joshi, and Sabin Kattel.

Lalima is presented by Faith Aastha, with Rina Lama serving as executive producer. National distribution is being handled by National Cine Group Nepal.
