About

Dr. Kapil Rijal is a Nepali film director, writer, and producer who has spent nearly three decades working as a dentist and implantologist in the United Kingdom, alongside a growing career in Nepali cinema. He is the son of Dr. Bhola Rijal, a well-known gynecologist, poet, and film personality whose work contributed to Nepali classics such as Saathi and Nepali Babu. Kapil's interest in storytelling began early, writing and acting in plays during school and college; and he later formally studied film direction while living in the UK. Before moving into feature films, he directed a student short in India, around a dozen music videos across Nepal and the UK, and short films including Guilt and Karma.

He made his feature directorial debut in 2023 with Harry Ki Pyari, a comedy-drama he also wrote, starring Jitu Nepal and Samragyee R.L. Shah, which also marked the launch of his production house, BR Productions. His second and most personal feature, Gauthali, released on July 17, 2026, was written by his father and tells the story of a young girl forced into child marriage who turns to education as a form of resistance.

Rijal continues to practice dentistry in the UK while pursuing filmmaking, and has said he wants to focus on authentic, socially rooted Nepali stories, with a long-term goal of bringing Nepali cinema to international recognition.
