He began his journey in the film world as a helper to a film director and artist in Bombay. Over time, he learned film editing and worked as an editor in Hindi movies. In 1981, he made his entry into the Nepali Movie Industry as a director and editor with the film 'Bansuri.'

Tulsi Ghimire's films often focused on depicting real societal issues, and he became known for his contributions to the Family Drama genre in Nepali cinema. His movies were designed to be enjoyed by the entire family. Over the years, he worked as a director, editor, actor, scriptwriter, lyricist, cinematographer, and producer.
